Should these batteries undergo equalization during the charging process? I've heard both "yes" and "no."

It's only recommended to equalize a battery once or twice a year at most and there is a lot of guesswork involved with the process on sealed AGM batteries since you can't get a specific gravity reading on the cells of the battery. If your charger has an equalization setting on it then once a year would be fine for an SLA. The problem is that every time you equalize a sealed battery it will cause gassing. With enough frequency, this gassing leads to the depletion of the electrolyte of the battery and will cause it to dry out and the performance to drop like a rock.
