What is the difference between the ETX30L and the ETX30LA Deka battery?

There is no difference in the battery itself, the ETX30LA unit comes with a plastic riser plate in the box. This is used in some jet ski models to make the Deka ETX30L battery taller to properly fit th e battery hold down. I believe Deka will only be shipping out the ETX30Ls at this time so if you don not need the riser plate then you can discard it.
