i have a Nissan Leaf electric car and the cars ancillary battery runs down when car is not being used even when plugged into the cars charger.
the battery is used to keep the cars computer running in the background and is kept charged by its generator.
When not in use for a while the 12volt lead acid battery runs low and when it drops low enough it stops the system from working so the car won't start up and i need to remove and recharge when i want to use it again.
There is a solar panel fitted but it does not keep the battery topped up while it is not being used so that is useless.
If i fit a Noco genius 2D to the battery terminals and only plug it in to keep the lead acid battery maintained while the car sits unused, could the charger remain attached without the mains plug attached while the car is in use, or attached to its electric car charger.
I don't think the ancillary battery is connected to the electric car system other than the generator, as the lead acid battery wouldn't keep running out of power when attached to its charge unit.
My charge station is outside the house where the car is parked in a locked box, with a fused supply socket alongside attached to a separate RCD trip unit to the electric car charger, so it would need a small length of extension lead to connect to the genius2d plug to attach it but the bonnet would have to be closed as i is outside the house although covered by CCTV.
I intend to replace the plug supplied with a kettle plug and a short monitor extension lead to fit in the socket and connect through the front charge port door of the Nissan Leaf as you have not fitted the charger with a small socket at the mains end and I have been using kettle plugs and leads on Disco systems as they make good water tight electrical connections that would work under the bonnet of the car.
