Is it normal for this charger to get hot while charging on #3?
CTEK MUS 4.3 Test and Charge (56-959)
While charging my car after a ride I noticed it was taking longer than usual for the charger to light up to #4. So I picked it up and it was very hot, I have never picked it up or touched it before while charging so I was a little shocked at the hot temps. The battery is in the car and connected by the quick plug that comes with the charger.

To be honest, it's not abnormal for the charger to get hot when it's in that third phase. That third charging phase is called bulk charge, and that's when the charger is putting out its max amperage for the longest period of time. It is a convection-cooled unit, so it's only cooled by the ambient temperature around it. It's not to alarm you. This is normal for the CTEK MUS 4.3 series and is expected.
